The World of Lionel Trains From Past to Present

In America, when thinking of model trains one can’t help but think of Lionel, the company that since it’s founding in 1900, made model trains popular with the masses. Although the company has faced financial hardship over the past 20 years, today Lionel train sets are being made by Lionel LLC which is the owner of the Lionel trademark which has become synonymous with toy trains since their beginning.
Now the corporation has a different structure but that is for the better; the important things like legacy, attention to detail and an original desire to build great model trains for children, adults and collectors remains apart of the modern Lionel corporation. While model trains may not be as popular as they once were, this certainly does not mean that they have fallen off the face of the planet. Children today have many more options when it comes to toys including electronic toys like video games that playing with a train set isn’t what it once was in terms of popularity.
Most of us can think back to the day when we were children and Lionel model trains were very much a part of our childhood. Remembering the huge box and the bright gift wrapping of your first train set is a great memory for many people. Now that many of us with these memories are adults, the fondness for model trains has not gone away. Being an adult with an adult income enables us to realize many of our model train desires that date all the way back to our childhood.
After evolving along a rich timeline and history, the modern Lionel model train company is not alone to enjoy the complete market dominance it once held, there are quite a few other mode railroad manufacturers that have garnered a piece of the model trains niche. New innovations are being introduced by model train companies like MTH Railking. With their high level of realism and detail, MTH is pushing the boundaries of modern model railroading. Lionel has had to seriously respond to the upped ante that the new companies have created, but they have been able to do so while still honoring the traditions and qualities of their most collectible items from the past. But no matter what other upstart companies come into being, Lionel will always have a special place in the heart of many model train collectors and enthusiast.
